What is Personal Branding?
As personal brand guru Dan Schawbel puts it simply: A personal brand is how you market yourself to others, including the digital representation of yourself online. Your brand is who you are and what you stand for, including your goals, values and skills. Your brand is the combined sum of everything you are and how you project it to others, whether online or offline. And people who matter to your future are searching for you online - employers, co-workers, clients, business partners, dates. Personal branding on the web means shaping their perceptions of you by defining your strengths, values, goals and personality and presenting yourself in a compelling, persuasive manner. If your name is only attached to a single social network like Facebook, your total personal brand online becomes that profile. If you have commented on ten blogs, and have three social network profiles, then the sum of that participation and creation is your brand - how people perceive you. You can and should develop your personal brand online to attract greater opportunities and stand out in your field. Plus, it's fun to see relevant Google results for your name increase as you strengthen your brand.
Can I use a domain name I already own when I register?
Absolutely! All you need is to configure the name servers for your domain to point to our name servers. How this is set up depends on who you
registered your domain with, so check with them for help. The name servers are (in this order):
- ns1.slicehost.net
- ns2.slicehost.net
- ns3.slicehost.net

If I sign up for a plan that gives me my own domain name, why will it take time before my site can be viewed?
After you register a new domain name, it can take anywhere from 1-48 hours for domain name servers worldwide to be updated. This means that when you type your website into your web browser, it may take up to two days before it can be viewed by the world. However, check your site regularly the day you sign up because it may be all set within a matter of minutes.
